Article by Phoenix writer Michelle Paszek ’24:

On Friday night, the Boys JV Basketball team won their home game against Holy Trinity High School by a final score of 56-54.

Top performers included: Jack Geoghan with 23 points and 8 rebounds, Brendan Gharagozolo with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Stephen Kiernan with 10 points.

Although the team was down by 9 points going into the 4th quarter, they were able to turn it around and outscore Holy Trinity 21-8.

In the last ten seconds, the team made a series of passes to their shooter Stephen Kiernan, who hit a three-point shot that made their win with 1.8 seconds to spare.

“I felt that it was a great win for our team,” Kiernan stated. “We felt the energy in the gym. The student support in the crowd added to that energy. It was a great comeback and team win. Our job isn’t finished yet, we are looking forward to the second half of the league and building up to the playoffs.”

The win brings the team to 6-0 in their league record and puts them solely in first place in league play.

The second half of the season starts Tuesday, January 10th, when the team travels to Manhasset to play St Mary’s High School.
